Fell mentioned in another thread that the purpose was to keep things social (sorry if I'm mis-quoting or mis-attributing).

I don't get it. When I started reading RGP a few years ago, Peg was answering the question daily of being able to show your hand to get a read. She would explain that you could show in certain situations, and even if you showed at the wrong time, your hand wasn't dead. Since then, I've seen many rooms make the mistaken rule into an actual rule, killing any hand shown early. But, I have also seen arguments where it makes sense to have such a rule, even if I disagree with it.

The mistaken rule of 'show one, show all' being applied to cards instead of people makes less sense. I would love to have someone explain it to me.

At the WSOP last year (in tournaments), showing your hand during the hand did not kill your hand. It got you a 10 minute penalty.

I finally got a clarification of this rule. When I showed one of my hole cards, I was ordered to show 'ALL' my cards. Imagine my embarassment as I rolled up my sleeve....
