Playing NLH with 25-50 blinds. You have the 25 small blind. Everyone folds to you. You toss in a $100chip(the 25$ chip is still in front of you) and don't say anything. Is this taken as a raise or call??

Considering that a call would be adding another $25 chip, how can putting in $100 not be considered a raise?

What if I did not have another $25 chip, tossed in a $100 chip and did not say anything?? Actually the ruling should be independent of whether I had another $25 chip or not.

Most places I have played use what they call the 'one chip rule.' That is if you toss in one chip without announcing a raise it is a call no matter the denomination of the chip. On Jun 22 2006 9:06 AM, burt wrote:

So, I believe the rule is this...In case one, you have $25 in the pot, when you toss in a $100 chip, the 'one chip' rule doesn't apply since you have that $25 chip already in the pot, therefore you've made a raise to $175. If you do, or do not have another $25 chip in your possession is inconsequential. You can either ask another player for change (if this is a home game), or the dealer. Otherwise, in order to call you need to either verbally state call, or remove the $25 chip, then toss in the $100 chip which would then use the rule that states if you throw in a single chip of a larger denomination than is required for the call, it is assumed to be call unless announced otherwise.

I have to go with Raise - you put out $125 total (the 25 chip and now the 100 chip)
Had you drug back the 25 and put just the 100 in then I say call (Under tha a single oversized chip rule before the flop is considered a call)
But here I say you raised 75

The 'oversized chip' rule is a TDA rule, and applies to tournaments. This is a raise. Even in a tournament, if you leave the $25 chip in front of you, it is usually considered a raise, as there are 2 chips in front of you.

Why? The oversized chip rule applies only to one chip. There are two chips on the table so it's a raise.

to make a raise with one chip u must state it verbally. If you only say raise it is the full amount of the chip. If you say nothing it is a call. If you are first to bet and you toss in a large chip then the chip is your bet unless you state the amount of the bet.
this is from firsthand table experience.
