That's not completely true. If you win your seat in a single table satellite, you will get the 20 $500 chips (good for tournaments only) that you can sell. You do not need to play the main event if you win a single table. For a multi table, though, Oliver Tse is correct.

The first one must be played. If you win more than one, you get $10,000 in lammers, which can be sold or used for other events.

There are a ton of different buy-in level single table satellites that give out lammers. They ranged last year (from what I saw) from $120ish to $1,060 and awarded anywhere from 2 to 20 lammers.
